QMPBC Update 25th July 2020
Hi Everyone,
Hope you are all keeping well and motivated!
I know it is not long since I sent out the last update, but there are several things that I need to let you know about:
Short Mat Bowls Final: “This will be held on Saturday 8th August at 2p.m., following social distancing and government advice. Qualifying players have been advised. It is to be played on the short mat carpet, outside on the green. Players are required to wear greys and club shirts or a white top. The draw will take place at 2p.m. and each game will be 7 ends of 4 woods each. The final will be 9 ends. We will be using the short mat red and black woods, so no need to bring your own. The woods will be sanitised after each game for your safety.
In accordance with bowls England guidance we cannot have more than 30 people on site at any given time. Within the 30 each qualifying player has been counted for plus a guest/supporter, plus markers and other officials. There are therefore very few places left. If anybody wishes to attend please contact Carol Kenneth on 07895003404 who will advise you if you will be able to attend, there is also the possibility that the guidance will be amended which may allow further spectators.
The bar will be open to keep spectators and players refreshed , Hooray!!
We are at the mercy of the weather for this outdoor event so let's keep everything crossed.”
Back to Bowls: This is going well, thanks to Mike Brown. In the five weeks since it began, nearly 50 people have safely enjoyed rolling woods again. Time for bowling is limited as it is planned to close the green after the Short Mat Bowls Final. So if you want to bowl please get in touch with Mike Brown (07515 487232 between 9am and 12 midday) as soon as possible to book your slot.
Refurbishment of the Green: You are all probably aware of some of the idiosyncrasies and irregularities of our green, despite all of Rod Soar’s efforts. The committee has decided that with bowling so seriously disrupted this year, it is an ideal time to have the green re-laid and re-seeded. We have been assured that if the green is re-laid in August, there is enough growing time to have it ready to be played on by the start of next season in April. That is why we are intending to close the green early. When we begin bowling again next year, we will have a new and less frustrating green to play on. 😊
Club Maintenance: We are very grateful to those who help with the maintenance of the premises for us all to use and enjoy. At the moment we don’t have a maintenance manager to coordinate things, but there are still a number of things that need doing to the club house and the thatch: repairs to the guttering, painting, creosoting and cleaning windows. The small shed needs reroofing with felt and the front hedge needs cutting again. We would be very grateful for anyone who could help us with any of these projects. Contact me or Dave Radley.
Regards,
Andy
