Sylvia sadly passed away on 3rd January 2019 at the age of 78 leaving husband Tony, two sons Allan and John and their partners, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Tony and his farther used to drink at the Gate Hangs Well just on the out skirts of Sileby, prior to Tony being called up to do his National Service in the Royal Navy, the landlady at the time suggested to her daughter Celia that she writes to Tony, some where down the line Tony didn't have Celia's full address so he wrote back with what he thought was the address but it was delivered to where Sylvia lived, Sylvia replied to say I think you have the wrong lass, Tony thought she sounds a nice girl and from that moment on they corresponded regularly, the rest as they say is history, they married in 1962.
Sylvia had worked in various offices doing clerical work until joining Tony and his brother in their welding business as secretary.
Tony joined the bowls club in 1972 and Sylvia came along to support him, it wasn't long be for she got involved with the club helping out in what ever needed doing. Sylvia played a big part in organising club tours over 5/7 day periods , Devon, Perth in Scotland, Falmouth and Torquay,( which was possible in those days as they didn't bowl as much as we do now) The club secretary at the time Morris Coverdale suggested as Sylvia was not a member she should be rewarded for all the work she was doing for the club and so she became the very first Honorary member.
We shall all miss a lovely lady and in particular seeing Sylvia sitting on the corner of the Thatch on gala days making sure members have paid their entrance fees, keeping scores and those members who needed keeping in order, and not forgetting her knitting.
Sylvia's funeral takes place on Wednesday 6th February at 10am St Mary's Church Sileby Afterwards Tony and family would like to invite you back to Quorn Mills Park Bowls Club for refreshments .
